An interview with Patty Herzog, Owner
What made you decide to get into the business of food & drink?
Global Coffee began in Winnemucca in 1997. For several years I was a customer at my hometown coffee shop. Then one day in 2006, I had the opportunity to step behind the bar and serve community in a whole new way. Coffee is about community and connection, and it is an honor to connect with our guest everyday and serve our community! In 2016 we opened at The Basement in downtown Reno.
Why Reno?
When I first learned of The Basement project at the historic post office in downtown Reno, I knew this was the next home for Global Coffee. To be in the heart of Reno and bring life to a historic building has been a rewarding experience. Everyday we hear, “I didn’t know this was here” and we love seeing Reno residents rediscover downtown Reno.
Why are you excited for Reno Restaurant Week?
This is our first year participating in Reno Food Week! With all of the recent challenges facing the food & hospitality industry, it seems even more important to come together. We are excited to see guests and serve coffee alongside all of the wonderful small businesses in this year’s event.
What is one thing you’d like your guests to know about you and/or your establishment?
We are located at The Basement, Reno’s unique underground shopping experience inside the historic post office in downtown Reno. We thank you for choosing Global Coffee! Stop by and rediscover downtown Reno and pick up a copy of our menu – inside you’ll find there is also a map of our city, sharing some Reno history! We invite you to stick around and explore downtown Reno, while we make your coffee because ordering your drink should be the easiest part of your day!
How are you complying with safety guidelines for COVID-19?
We have marked 6 feet distancing on the floor for ordering, spaced seating to maintain distancing, employees wear masks, gloves, take daily temperature readings and health assessments, and use hand sanitizer. We have hand sanitizer for guests to use. Employees sanitize points of contact in the shop. We offer contact-less transactions and call-in orders. All self service items have been removed and our Baristas are happy to add on request. We encourage guests to wear masks.
