The new owners of Tamarack Casino decided that this past year was the perfect time to make some changes to their food and beverage scene.

They knew they had to build a stellar food and beverage team and truly outdid themselves in choosing the staff for this newly remodeled and reinvented casino steakhouse. To oversee the reinvention of their steakhouse and revamp of The DC Cafe, they brought in Executive Chef, Jakon Tolhurst (formerly at Roxy & Zeppelin), Food & Beverage/Sommelier, Gary Steininger (formerly at Sterlings) and Director of Convention & Banquets, Kristen Spracklin (formerly at Eldorado & Renaissance).

The first week of December, they added Joel Giandalia to the mix as an Opening Advisor. Giandalia is best known by locals for his downtown Reno restaurant, SoDo (which he sold in 2017) in addition to the work he’s done with Charlie Palmer and Eldorado Casino Resort. With his history of opening and revamping almost a hundred restaurant and retail establishments, the owners felt he was the perfect fit to fine tune the details and oversee the opening.

“I was thrilled to be offered this opportunity,” said Giandalia.  “Working with the owners and staff to reinvent and reopen Tamarack’s steakhouse has been an absolute pleasure.”

With a new location in the building (directly inside the south entrance), a delicious menu and well trained staff, Nevada Steak opened its doors to the public the week of December 14, 2020.

When it came to design, the team took into account the little things so, when you visit (reservations can be made via OpenTable), there are a few things you’re going to want to pay attention to:

  • Do a little walk about and take in the art that was created exclusively for the space.
  • Look up! The copper ceilings are not to be missed.
  • Check out the wine room and then the wine list which is impressive and quite possibly one of the best in town.

While you can most certainly get, and be happy with, a perfectly cooked steak (finished with Chef’s Hotel Butter *drool*) and a mammoth baked potato, I would encourage you to try something new on one of your visits.  Chef Jakon is truly talented and each dish has been thoughtfully developed.

Some friends and I spent this past Friday night at this newly remodeled casino steakhouse and we were delighted.  Gary’s wine choices were sublime and paired perfectly with Chef Jakon’s culinary creations.  Every taste and sip was lovely, the staff was wonderful and our service was spot on.

From one food lover to another, add an order of the mac n cheese for the table.  Chef Jakon has taken this comfort food to the next level and it is crave worthy!
