The Shore combines a bright airy dining room with open kitchen, a soaring rotunda bar and a capacious stone terrace, all overlooking the Truckee River from the Renaissance Reno Downtown Hotel. Jacob Burton, an exceedingly talented young chef, oversees the kitchen.

Breakfast is served daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (must try: smoked salmon Benedict or brioche French toast). At dinner, grilled lamb lollipops or buttermilk fried pork ribs might arrive as starters, followed by Alaskan halibut or pan-roasted chicken thighs. If you’re dining on Wednesday, there’s no corkage fee and certain wines are 50 percent off.
