Participant: Overland Restaurant & Pub
by Johnathan L. Wright
Chef Mark Estee purchased the Overland Restaurant & Pub, in the historic former meat market and Overland Hotel in Gardnerville, late in 2018, adding the restaurant to his Reno Local Food Group. The hotel was one of several rooming houses built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Northern Nevada to accommodate immigrant Basque sheepherders.
Several dishes, Estee says, draws inspiration from smokehouse and Basque heritage: Basque shrimp seasoned with smoked paprika, a Basque soup of cabbage and pinto beans, smoked pork mac and cheese, shaved beef tri-tip sandwich, a rack of Overland smoked ribs.
We serve locally sourced meats, pastas, breads and other produce to create a unique menu that has a distinct smokehouse vibe and deep roots in Basque cuisine.Mark Estee, owner
